This is my inaugural Flash Fiction Friday post, a (hopefully) regular feature where I share some very short stories. Some of these might feature characters you know. Most won’t. What is flash fiction? Wikipedia defines it as “a style of fictional literature or fiction of extreme brevity.” That sounds about right to me. I tend to think of anything less than a thousand words as flash fiction. After that, we’re into short story territory. Today’s story is definitely short, at precisely 100 words.

My body part collection started when I found a severed hand. After cleaning it and wrapping it in foil, it went into the freezer.
When I found a foot a month later, I knew what needed to be done.
Now the freezer has almost everything required, I’m just missing a head. I have a surplus of right legs and am hoping to do an exchange with a fellow collector. Then I will be ready to fashion a child.
My only fear is how to reply when the day comes that she will ask me, “Mummy, where did I come from?”
